Singapore

Witness the night-time spectacle of F1 on Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit, then play exclusive private member golf.

Ever since it joined the Formula 1 circuit in 2008, with Renault’s Fernando Alonso winning a controversial, action-packed race, the Singapore Grand Prix has risen to the pinnacle of the world’s must-visit sporting events. As Formula 1’s first night-time race, it literally lights up downtown Singapore as the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Daniel Ricciardo and Charles Leclerc, do battle in their high-tech chariots in speeds of up to 200mph on the Marina Bay Street Circuit. This, together with 23 turns on the circuit, is enough to bewitch any traveller – sports fan or not – especially when you get VIP track hospitality, and a room in the hotel overlooking the circuit, JW Marriot South Beach. But, the Singapore Grand Prix goes way beyond the track action, it’s a giant festival of music, theatre and the arts, that has seen the likes of Bon Jovi, Maria Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Muse and Kyle Minogue perform.

Then, you have the golf, a chance for you yourself to reach new sporting heights without several million pounds worth of machinery. Three clubs are no more than a 20-minute drive from the racing – unless you’re hitching a lift with Hamilton – ranging from one of Asia’s finest, Sentosa Golf Club and its Serapong Course, home of the Singapore Open (won by Matt Kuchar in 2020) to super exclusive private member clubs. Between the golf and the Formula 1 festival, you have to make time to explore some of the finest cuisine in the world, from the hawker stalls to the Michelin-starred scene, including Odette, the number two restaurant across all of Asia.
