Provence, France
Rolling French countryside, historic hilltop villages, fields of verdant lavender, dramatic mountain landscapes, and the best rosé in the world, Provence is truly unique. And where better to explore it from than Terre Blanche, home to a Championship course, a world-class golf academy, Michelin-starred cuisine, and all the five-star luxury you could want…
Why Provence?
Provence, and indeed the wider Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, is in the south-eastern corner of France, on the border of Italy, and forever vying with its neighbour for bragging rights in viticulture, ancient history, art and picture-perfect landscapes.
The region combines the rosé heartlands of Provence, home of the world-famous Whispering Angel, Château d'Esclans, hilltop medieval villages and ancient towns, with the glitz and glamour of Nice and the French Riviera, where multi-million-dollar superyachts saunter into the harbours of Cannes and St Tropez.
What to do
The vineyards of Provence offer more than just vines—though they do produce over 150 million bottles of rosé each year. They’re also home to award-winning restaurants, open-air sculpture, and historic châteaux. Even a wine tour can be shaped around your specific interests, whether culinary, cultural or architectural.
Winding roads weave their way along the mountain passes of the Verdon Gorges, the largest canyon in Europe, and are breathtaking at every turn. Discover places such as Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, a village clinging to the mountain side, with a waterfall running through it, and a monastery carved into the cliffs above.
Traverse the dramatic hairpins, surely designed to be tackled by classic cars, to the bottom of the gorge and swim or kayak your way down the azure blue waters of the river, or continue along the mountain roads, past vast lakes, and the countryside opens up to reveal fields of lavender and sunflowers.
Where to stay
Terre Blanche Hôtel Spa Golf Resort is five-star in every sense, with the natural advantage that comes with a 750-acre setting nestled among those sandstone villages, lush hillsides and vineyards, but also within touching distance of the Alps and the pristine blue Mediterranean coast in the south. Stay in private villas, almost hidden among nature, dine at several restaurant options, including the Michelin-starred La Faventia, an all-day bistro in La Gaudina, or Les Caroubiers serving up both Provençal and clubhouse classics. Best of all, pair any of the food with wines from the resort’s 400-bottle cellar.
After a day exploring Provence, unwind with access to an award-winning spa, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, a world-class golf academy, and two Championship courses—all within the grounds of Terre Blanche.
Where to play
Terre Blanche is home to two spectacular courses. The Championship-level Le Château—named after the nearby Château Bouge, which overlooks several holes—is the resort’s signature course. It has hosted numerous professional events and makes full use of the natural terrain, with gently undulating fairways and striking water features throughout. Le Riou, set against the backdrop of Provence’s hilltop villages, offers a different but equally rewarding challenge. Slightly more forgiving, it’s no less memorable.
Beyond the resort, some of France’s most exclusive courses lie within easy reach—including the much-loved Golf de Cannes Mougins and the iconic Monte-Carlo Golf Club.
